Although statement jewelry is still going strong this Fall 2014 Season, I kept searching for a fresher alternative. Now it seems that I have found the perfect option in neck scarves.
I’m not talking about long scarves wrapped loosely around the neck for warmth and chic. No, I’m talking about the classic silk square scarves that women have worn since WWII. I’m talking about Gene Kelley and Audrey Hepburn neckerchiefs. I’m talking Katherine Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. And I guess I’m talking simply fabulous.
The first look is rolled and then knotted at the side of the neck with the two tales left fluttering. Very coquette and very French. It is sexy and goes so well with the entire 60’s inspired fashions this fall.
The second is the bandana. It must derive it’s name from the word “bandits” because it is a triangle knotted at the back of the neck that is worn high on the chin, looking as it if almost dropped down from covering your face (as in wild west bandits).
The last look is a “dandy” menswear look: the scarf is folded in a triangle, then folded in on itself, knotted in a big knot on the center of your neck and then wrapped around and back, tucking into your crew neck sweater, top or dress, which seems ever so right this fall.
Small square scarves: colorful, playful, flirty, serious and at once elegant, topped off with uncontrived hair and makeup…giving the illusion that you didn’t even try to be chic.
It’s very much like the perfect top-knot hairdo: it may take ten tries to make it look perfectly imperfect. So it is with scarves.
The “effort” to look totally “effortless” is worth every minute it takes.
